christmas trees forever!

i don't really like to decorate for holidays at my own place unless it's natural elements. I really think there should be more nature indoors. I have a tree this year, but there's not too much else. I would totally do this though, if i had a grip of tree trunks lying around. maybe next year!

trees & gansta leans

i made a tree topper! it's actually three different owls I fused together to make my favorite eagle owl. some owls look kind of retarded. this breed looks like he will eat your kittens that jump into the middle of your tree from a few feet away (this is why my christmas tree is at a semi-permanent gangsta lean btw).

Wow, Sam Weber's artwork is so beautiful. I love the composition & dream-like quality of his artwork. Kinda makes you want to read the book again, right?

this is halloween

oooeee, my mom sent me candy in the mail. best surprise all day!

i've been working on my halloween costume the past couple days. making handmade scissorhands is more challenging than i expected. Especially when you're teaming up against two kitten-thieves that don't respond to the word "no."

i'm so excited though. love, love, love halloween. i'll probably post a photo when the hands are finished.

this is my inspiration - tim burton is so amazing:

i'm really unsure where my halloween costume ideas originated from. Here are a few of my favorites:

1. For 2 or 3 years I was Zorro (including penciled 'stache, hat, cape, and mask). I made sure everyone knew i was Señor Zorro from the old Spanish version - not the English one. I insisted it was the one true Zoro & to keep the two straight. :/

2. One year entirely silver, when my dad helped me make a computer/robot costume (my face was silver). I thought i was hilarious actually doing the robot. You guuuys, i'm doing the meeee

3. When i was about 5 or 6 i was a "Hobo" - which ended up looking like some post-college grad including a backwards trucker hat, plaid shirt, stubble & a beer-belly made with a pillow. Oh and a black tooth. bet that was a moment of pride for my parents taking us door to door. yes, that's our daughter in front there - with the beer-belly

this ended up being my costume:

like the wind

we flew kites for katie's birthday. battling the wind proved to be a task.
i had to macgyver some sort of a fix for my kite string which cause my kite to only fly in really fast circles. it was really scary - but definitely a fun afternoon.

the wind seemed really familiar. almost the same kind of wind i remember as a kid. On the most windy days we would test our fates leaning all of our weight against the wind to see if it would hold us. i was convinced if i held my umbrella at the right angle, it would lift me like a kite. all the while we dodged tumbleweeds rolling down the street and pretended we weren't in the middle of our track homes. instead of dodging the rolling tumbleweeds, i remember trying to jump over them. in theory this is great, but when you're really small you most likely won't clear a tumbleweed that's your height. that didn't really stop me from trying

Here are the newbies! Mathematics & Caribou are home & are doing great. They are pretty rad little kittens. It's crazy how young they are...somehow they are trained assassins. they train most of the day - attacking each other when the other is sleeping/off-guard.

Matics does her own thing most of the time, until you're writing a note or eating food. Caribou is extremely nosey - regardless of what you are doing. She follows me like a shadow & mews a bit. She has also been finishing most of my emails or adds anecdotes when she walks on my laptop. Usually i just leave it in the note because she usually says it better than i do. :)
